Any reason why they stay away?

We just don’t buy sub-Fiesta sized cars, although having so said the Toyota Aygo is reasonably common.

I can’t see this as a Twingo. The first two were nippy little standalone front wheel drive three door cars, this is a badge engineered rear wheel driver five door. I had almost nothing to do with previous Twingos.
From the side it looks awful.
The rear door just reminds me of an old Nissan Pixo.

That side view makes me think stretched Fiat 500.

If they had kept the vehicle closer to Twingo DNA, it would be a really viable opponent to the Fiat 500, as is, it's an also ran.

Even here in Germany I see more mk1 Twingos than these mk3s, even though the mk3 is a rebadged Smart (Mercedes) and Germans mostly buy German cars.
